Center's Physical Therapy Residency Awarded Accreditation
Minnesota Sports Medicine’s Sports Physical Therapy Residency was recently credentialed by the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA). The APTA is the largest national professional organization serving more than 66,000 physical therapists.
The prestigious designation names the residency as an accredited one-year post-professional program for physical therapists seeking to advance their training and skills in sports medicine. It is one of only five such programs nationwide and the only program in Minnesota.
“The designation recognizes MSM’s commitment to the development of high-quality multidisciplinary education and research programs for sports medicine providers,” said MSM executive director, Dennis O’Donnell, MHA, PT.
The residency accepts one physical therapist annually and offers wide-ranging coursework, including working side-by-side sports medicine and orthopedic physicians, direct clinical care, on-the-field service, sports surgery observation and a research project. On conclusion of the residency, physical therapists are prepared to start a sports medicine practice.
Minnesota Sports Medicine is the area’s largest network of sports medicine physicians, orthopedic surgeons, physical therapists and athletic trainers. It is a community leader in sports medicine treatment, research and education.
