Orthopaedic Sports Medicine Fellows Research

Fellows select at least one Research Project to complete during the Fellowship in their area of interest. MSM encourages the Fellows to develop a project(s) that can be completed within the Fellowship year. Fellows write a research proposal, identifying the topic/question, research hypothesis, goals and objectives, methodology, statistical analysis, literature review, timeline, budget, subject recruitment, etc., and submit it to the Research Committee for review. On approval, Fellows implement their project with assistance of the Research Committee and the MSM Research Associates. On completion of the Research Project, Fellows summarize results and submit their paper to a peer-reviewed journal of their choice.

Clinical and Laboratory Research Facilities, Resources

Clinical and laboratory research facilities available to the Fellows include on-site libraries, inpatient/outpatient clinics and rehabilitation facilities, biomechanics and motor skills laboratories, and athletic training rooms. Fellows have access to wide-ranging patient populations to support their research question at sponsoring and participating institutions. The institutions will help to fund Fellow research as well as assist Fellows in securing funding if necessary. Writing, data analysis and testing assistance is also available.
