Board-certified family medicine and emergency medicine physician Sheldon R. Burns, M.D., earned his medical degree from the University of Minnesota Medical School in 1974 and completed his residency at the same. He earned his Certificate of Added Qualifications (CAQ) in Sports Medicine in 2003. Dr. Burns sees patients at Edina Family Physicians in Edina, Minn., where his special medical interests include sports medicine and obstetrics.
He serves as Medical Director for the Minnesota Lynx, the Minnesota Timberwolves, the Minnesota Wild and the Institute for Athletic Medicine, a rehabilitation provider. He also serves as team physician for the Minnesota State High School League tournaments, Minnesota Vikings, and United States Olympic and World Championship teams. Dr. Burns is the Deputy Medical Commissioner for the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and clinical associate professor at the University of Minnesota Medical School.
He was named ‘Top Doctor’ by the Mpls/St.Paul magazine and ‘Pediatric Top Doctor’ by the Twin Cities’ Parent magazine.
